manufactures and supplies a Laser Guidance (retrofit) Kit which allows
conversion of unguided 2.75 inch rockets, either FFAR (Folding Fin) or
WAFAR (Wrap Around Fin), to guided ones.
The Kit comprises a special seeker unit and deployable stabilising fins which is fitted between the rocket motor (either Mk66 WAFAR or Mk4 / Mk40 FFAR) and the warhead. No other modifications are required either to munition (complete rocket) or the Launcher.
Advantages: the unguided rocket which, by design, suffers from significant dispersion errors in ranges over 2km (slant range) and thus requires salvo firing of many rockets against a target, is converted into a high precision weapon.
The number of rockets to be fired against a single target is therefore significantly reduced. The cost in ordnance is therefore reduced and the higher cost of the guided 2.75 inch rocket is by far compensated.
Laser target designators of various types and manufacturers, including CYPLOPS by ORDTECH can be used, either airborne or ground based.
