Seirina Guided Bomb
Precision Guided Munition Conversion Kit (JDAM) for Mk83 and Mk84 aircraft bombs: GPS + Inertial

Seirina Guided Bomb Mk84-SGM

The complete weapon comprises the following:

1 Fuze:
Single nose fuze which may be of either impact type or proximity type depending on warhead.

2 Warhead:
Forged steel or pre-fragmented warhead (PFB) in the 500 Kg and 1000Kg class (1000 lbs and 2000 lbs). Upon request the kit may be modified for adaptation to Soviet, Warsaw Pact, French, British warheads.

3 Exoskeleton:
Ensures smooth air flow during flight and also provides additional lift for extended slant range.

4 Guidance and Control Section:
-Computer on board and software
– IMU with 3 linear and 3 angular accelerometers
– GPS receiver (Glonass, Navstar, etc).

5 Tail Section:
includes control surfaces, servoactuators and guidance control units of servos, antenna and dielectric cone for GPS reception.

6 Ancillaries:
Release sensor switch, Barometric altitude sensor, Access hatch, Data port, Power Supply: thermal and alkaline batteries for power supply to control surfaces and other systems.

Parts 1 and 2 are optional and not part of the kit. Ordtech can supply upon Customer request. Parts 3, 4, 5, 6 comprise the upgrade / retrofit kit.

Strike target “T” from certain altitude and Range. Range is determined by platform, velocity, altitude and tactical situation. It is calculated at mission planning or during flight.

Point “C” corresponds to the theoretical point of release (RP) of standard (non guided) store in order to strike the target.

release can take place anywhere within an ellipsoidal manoeuvring / energy envelope : 2Km x 1.3 Km (horizontal error margins).

sophisticated control system identifies RP and glides (corrects trajectory) in order to strike target regardless of RP, as long as it is situated within the ellipsoidal.

Consequence of above is that the weapon can be carried and launched by 2nd or 1st generation aircraft equiped with even a primitive navigation system.

Unlike similar weapons (e.g JDAM), there is no need to be linked with the data bus of the platform or use its on board navigation system.

Mission Planning and Targeting. Prior to mission, data entry into the kit takes place via a desk or laptop computer. Data entered concern individual targets while multiple target data entry is possible. Entered data are the following:

BombGPS DataEntry4
BombGPS DataEntry
BombGPS DataEntry

CEP Circular Error Probable (m) for various Air to Ground Munitions (AGM)

According to Greek mythology, SEIRINAE (plural of Seirina) were creatures, half birds-half women, which inhabited the Seirinousae islands, off the Adriatic coast.

Humans, seamen in particular, feared the creatures. For their song was so seductive, that urged passing-by ships crews to approach, forget family and homeland and stay there forever.

Alas to the unfortunate: the creatures created an enormous turbulence which wrecked the ship; then devoured the sailors. Their bones and skulls covered the valleys of the islands.

Only two ships were alleged to have escaped the Seirinae: One was the “ARGO”. Orpheus, the harp player and singer, and his fellow Argonauts were on board. His divine song mesmerized the Argonauts, who paid no attention to the song of the Seirinae.

Second was that of Odysseus, King of Ithaki, returning from the Trojan war. Sorceress Kirki had warned this crafty Greek about the Seirinae. With his ears plugged with wax and chained onto the mast, commanded his crew until they passed safely.

Omiros (Homer) is reporting that the Seirinae were only two. According to other writters however, there were more and reference is made to a few with names full of mystery and significance: Aglaofimi, Thelxiepia, Ligea, Lefkopia, Molpi and Parthenopi.

Forty centuries later, the name “SEIRINA” was adopted by Ordtech Military Industries for its guided air-to-ground munition, a powerful tactical asset available to air forces worldwide for precision air strike.
